Forget “Dance Like No One’s Watching”
Embracing the beauty of seeing and being seen is much more liberating.
My latest Psychology Today post is a take down of "Dance Like No One's Watching" -- So what if they were watching and *judging*? How about instead embracing our own inner guide and recognizing that we control our effort, not the opinions of others on the dance floor and in life... 🕺🪩
This is a personal one for me -- I've had a hard time embracing dance, for fear of doing it wrong and out of an untrue belief that I'm just not someone who can dance. But now it's a big part of not just my life, but my journey to being at home in my mind and in my body. How's dance been for you?

A few takeaways
- Someone watching (and *judging*) us on the dance floor isn’t the problem—it’s internalizing the judgment that holds us back.
- "Let them" judge, and instead root yourself in your own joy, growth, and sense of self.
- When we watch others with appreciation, not comparison, we rediscover our shared humanity.
- In work, as in dancing, we thrive when we let go of the pressure to be perfect.
New Columbia Swing, a great place to dance and where I learned to swing dance, captured this picture of me!
